This is a list of our most comonly performed services. As you have seen on this website, almost anything can be done at Weston Instruments. If the service you are looking for is not listed here, we will need to see the instrument in order to provide an estimate. Repairs that aren't a fixed price service are priced based on our 150$/H bench rate. Our minimum bench charge is 150$.
Strings and parts can only be sold in conjunction with our services

Fretwork:
Fretwork is now done with the assistance of a Plek machine, this allows perfect action to be achieved, since all distortions caused by string tension are levelled out. A fret dress done in this fashion is 300$, which includes a complete setup. A jewel finish is available, price depends on the fret size and material.
Re-frets:
Refret prices vary, depending on the condition of the specimen at hand. Several books could be written on the subject, and no factors set a constant difficulty level. As an example, an old Les Paul Custom, with a worn ebony fingerboard and binding, will be more time consuming to refret than a maple board strat from the '70's, even if refinishing is involved. When it comes to vintage instruments, there are many variables that will affect the time required to achieve the same result as on a recent instrument, and the price will vary, based on those factors. Things like a vintage T bar Martin, or a Gibson with truss rod limitations are an example of these factors. An estimate will be provided when you bring such an instrument in for a refret. I work with all fret materials and sizes. For a basic idea, a complete refret will vary between 925$-975$ in the vast majority of cases, but in complex situations, such as refretting fretting poor refrets, or pulling and re-installing inlat, or if lacquered fingerboards need to be refinished, the cost is significantly higher. Refrets do include a complete instrument service, new bone nut in all cases, and a new bone saddle on acoustic guitars.
Glaser Bender:
Weston Instruments is a licensed Glaser Bender installtion facility. The cost of the hardware and installtion of the system start at 1,050.00$ (square, non slanted neck plate). This includes the parts of the Glaser Bender, the installtion and returning the setup of the instrument to the mesurements upon receipt.
We can also install the contoured neck plate model, three bolt neck plate model, slanted neck plate model and the wild double bender. Please enquire for pricing if you have one of these variations/combinations.
Complete restoration and Finish work:
Quoted on a per job basis. Please bring in you guitar for an estimate. We work with traditional Nitrocellulose lacquer and UV cured Polyester. We only offer finish work in the context of repair, or when finishing new components. We do not offer a complete re-finishing service (stripping, prepping and refinishing)
Nuts and Saddles (add material cost to theses prices and setup):
Guitar, Bass, banjo and mandolin nuts: 150$
Acoustic instrument saddles: 85$
Compensated acoustic instrument saddles: 150$
This service, more often than not, requires with setup work in addition to the new component.
Bridge re-glue:
When the bridge on an acoustic guitar starts to lift, either from a failed glue join, or poor climate control, it has to be removed from the guitar, the surfaces cleaned and matched and then re-glued. The time consumption of this process varies from guitar model and manufacturer. The smoother ones, from mass production facilities, are usually 350$, while the mode complex situations can consume as many as 4 hours, which is 600$. Complex situations are, as an example, a strongly deformed top, bridge, or both. Needing to repair the bridge plate and top as well, etc.
Neck resets:
For the time being, I am only accepting neck resets on C.F. Martin Guitars, Taylor guitars and Gibson Guitars. Older Taylor guitars don’t have the modern shim system known as NT, and a neck reset on those older models is usually 450$, plus setup. Resets on Martin Guitars start at 1,000$. Gibson guitars are quoted on a case by case basis given the amount of variations made by this manufacturer. Neck resets on newer Taylor guitars, which have the NT neck joint, are 50$, plus setup
Structural repairs, Vintage Restorations, customizations:
Please, bring in your guitar for an estimate. I have extensive experience in complex repairs, vintage restorations and customizations, but these projects are all different and prices can vary greatly. Costs are always based on our bench fee of 135$/h. You can see some samples of these works on my Facebook Page.
Pickup installation and electronics:
Electronics works is billed by the hour, at 150$/h. Over the years, I have found this to be the fairest way to manage this type of work. Most common electronics tasks can be completed within one hour at the bench. Things like swapping pickups, pots and switches. Of course, custom wiring, and working in semi-hollow and hollow electric guitars are more time consuming projects. We are also more than comfortable routing guitars to fit electronic components that would not fit the instrument otherwise. An estimate will always be given to you before any work is started.
